Before you start

1. Add up what you own today, at its current value.
2. Take off the debts you must pay now.
3. If what is left is at or above the nisab, your Zakat is 2.5% of it. You can pay it in step 2.

What to include

• Cash and savings, at home or in the bank
• Gold and silver
• Shares, investments and business stock
• Money owed to you that you expect to be repaid
• Not your home, car or personal belongings

The nisab

We use the silver nisab: the value of 612.36 grams of silver, updated with live prices. It is the lower of the two standards, so more people pay and more people receive.

How Lifeline looks after your Zakat

• Your Zakat is kept in a separate Zakat Fund and never mixed with other donations.
• It is given only to people eligible to receive it.
