Privacy policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Lifeline Aid International respects your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information we collect, why, how we protect it, and the choices you have. It covers this website (lifeline-aid.org) and our donation, volunteering and account pages at give.lifeline-aid.org.

Who we are

Lifeline Aid International is a registered Canadian charity (No. 745268425RR0001), at 100-2412 Holly Lane, Ottawa ON K1V 7P2. We are responsible for the personal information we hold. Our Privacy Officer makes sure we follow this policy. You can reach them at contact@lifeline-aid.org.

What we collect, and why

When you donate

  • Your name, email address and postal address, so we can process your gift and send you an official donation receipt for income tax purposes, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
  • Your phone number, if you choose to give it.
  • Details of your gift: amount, date, frequency, and the appeal or campaign you chose.
  • Card or bank payments are handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

When you create a donor account

Your email address and a password, so you can sign in to see your donations, download your receipts and manage monthly gifts.

When you apply to volunteer

Your name, email address, phone number and town or city; the areas you are interested in; your previous experience and why you would like to volunteer; when you could start; a referee’s name and email address; and your CV if you choose to upload one. We use this only to consider your application and, if you join us, to organize your volunteering. Please ask your referee before giving us their details.

When you contact us

The name, email address, optional phone number, topic and message you send through our contact form, so we can reply. A copy is kept on our website and sent to our team by email.

When you fundraise for us

If you create a fundraising page, the name, story and target you choose to show on it are public. We keep your contact details to support your fundraising.

Your contact preferences

Whether you agree to hear from us by email, phone, post or text message. We only send news and appeals to people who have agreed to receive them, as Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL) requires, and every message tells you how to unsubscribe. Receipts and messages about your own donation or application are not marketing, and we send them as needed.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or analytics tools that follow you across the web.
  • We do not let donors or anyone else choose who receives our help, and we never publish the stories or photos of the people we serve without their consent.

Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum:

  • A language cookie remembers whether you chose English, French or Arabic.
  • If you sign in to your donor account, a cookie keeps you signed in.
  • During a card payment, Stripe uses cookies to prevent fraud.
  • Website staff who sign in to manage the site get WordPress’s own sign-in cookies.

Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security. Our contact form briefly uses your IP address to block spam, and does not store it.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run our work, only as much as they need, and under agreements that require them to protect it:

  • Givio, our supporter database, which records donations, receipts, volunteer applications and donor accounts.
  • Stripe, which processes card payments.
  • Resend, which delivers emails such as receipts and confirmations on Givio’s behalf.
  • FastComet, which hosts this website.

We also disclose information when the law requires it, for example to the Canada Revenue Agency.

Where your information is stored

Our website is hosted in the United States, and Givio stores our supporter records in the United Kingdom. Stripe and Resend process data in the United States and other countries. Information stored outside Canada is protected by our service providers’ safeguards but may be accessed by courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of those countries under their laws.

How long we keep it

  • Donation and receipt records: at least six years after the end of the financial year they relate to, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
  • Volunteer applications: for as long as you volunteer with us, then two years. Applications we do not take forward, including CVs, are deleted after 12 months.
  • Contact form messages: two years, unless they become part of a donation or volunteer record.
  • Contact preferences: until you change them.

When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

How we protect it

Our website and Givio pages are encrypted (HTTPS). Only authorized volunteers who need personal information for their role can see it, and they sign in to do so. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our systems.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, stop sending you news and appeals, or delete it. We will reply within 30 days. We may need to keep some records, such as donation receipts, for as long as the law requires. To make a request, email contact@lifeline-aid.org.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Young people

If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before you apply to volunteer, create an account or fundraise with us.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if the way we handle personal information changes, and change the date at the top.
