Nearly a year on, Gaza’s families still need food, shelter and care

It is nearly a year since the ceasefire in Gaza was announced on 10 October 2025, but families on the ground still face daily danger. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports 1,471 people killed and 5,189 wounded since the ceasefire, and at least 74,254 deaths since October 2023 (Al Jazeera, 8 October 2026).

Life in a shrinking space

  • Nearly 2.1 million people are crowded into about 35% of the Strip (Islamic Relief, via Al Jazeera)
  • About 82% of structures are damaged or destroyed (Al Jazeera)
  • More than half of health services have shut down, and more than 20,000 seriously ill patients have not been able to leave Gaza for treatment (Islamic Relief, via Al Jazeera)
  • Shelter materials, fuel and medical supplies are still restricted (Islamic Relief, via Al Jazeera)

Hunger has eased, but it has not gone away

The World Food Programme says 1.4 million people, two in three Gazans, still face crisis levels of hunger or worse. About 80% of people are out of work, and only one in five children receives an adequate diet. WFP warns that up to 90% of the population could face high acute food insecurity by the end of the year if food assistance is not sustained (WFP).

Winter is coming, and families living in tents and damaged homes need shelter, warm clothing and food now.
