UN agencies warn aid in Sudan could shrink within weeks without funding

UN agencies warned on 14 September that aid in Sudan may have to be scaled back sharply because of funding gaps. IOM said its stocks of shelter, sanitation and household relief items were expected to run out by the end of September (IOM).

IOM said 8.6 million people remain displaced inside Sudan, and that 4.9 million people have returned home. Nearly 70% of displaced people are staying with host families or in informal settlements (IOM).

After visiting Sudan, WFP’s Acting Director Carl Skau said funding was the agency’s main problem. WFP reaches 4 to 5 million people each month, and some 19.5 million people face crisis levels of hunger (UN News).

The entire humanitarian system could collapse within weeks if we don’t act now.
