Sudan: 13 million displaced as attacks on aid convoys grow
Sudan’s war began in April 2023. It has killed at least 59,000 people, and aid groups warn the true toll is far higher. About 13 million people have been forced from their homes, and parts of the country have been pushed into famine (Al Jazeera, 9 October 2026).
Aid under fire in Kordofan
In the early hours of 3 October, an aerial attack hit two clearly marked trucks carrying WFP food between Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan, killing a driver. A day earlier, another WFP truck hit an explosive device in Dilling after delivering food. WFP called for a prompt and impartial investigation and for all parties to respect international humanitarian law (WFP, 4 October 2026).
Every attack on a convoy means families who were already hungry go without.
Darfur remains at the centre of the crisis
Darfur, a region about the size of Spain, has seen attacks on displacement camps and repeated mass killings. This week the UN Security Council extended the Darfur arms embargo to 11 December; a proposal to widen it to all of Sudan was not agreed (Al Jazeera).
Families who have lost everything need food, water and shelter today.
