1.4 million people in Gaza projected to face crisis-level hunger
On 23 July, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) published its latest analysis for Gaza. Between mid-April and 30 June, more than 1.2 million people (59%) faced crisis-level food insecurity or worse, including 212,000 at emergency level. No one was classified in catastrophe (IPC).
The IPC said the aid that expanded after the October 2025 ceasefire had driven the improvement. But it projected that the number facing crisis or worse would rise to about 1.4 million people (67%) between July and December 2026, because aid coverage had been falling since February.
It also estimated that 74,200 children aged 6 to 59 months and 24,600 pregnant and breastfeeding women would need treatment for malnutrition by April 2027 (IPC, via OCHA).
