Gaza’s health services cut back as fuel and spare parts run short

Nearly a year after the ceasefire was announced in October 2025, civilians in Gaza still face life-threatening risks, OCHA said. Shortages of engine oil, tyres and spare parts led the Ministry of Health and its partners to switch to emergency operating arrangements from 16 September, reducing routine care.

Food rations were smaller. Between 1 and 15 September, more than 460,000 people received a food parcel and a bag of flour covering about half of their minimum calorie needs, and 102 kitchens prepared about 732,000 meals a day (OCHA).

Shelter remained a major concern, with thousands of people living in hundreds of damaged buildings judged unsafe. The Civil Defence said more than 8,000 people were still missing under rubble (OCHA).

Key figures

  • Food rations covered about 50% of minimum calorie needs (OCHA)
  • 732,000 meals a day from 102 community kitchens (OCHA)
  • More than 8,000 people missing under rubble (Civil Defence, via OCHA)
  • 1,381 people killed and 4,757 injured since the ceasefire, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health (via OCHA)
